I was just wondering about the WhoIs results and where they are pulled from. Sometimes certain extensions (.com .net etc) don't work or don't pull ALL of the information.

By the way the scanning domains feature is AWESOME!! I use it ALL the time. I read in your developer blog that you're working on something else similar? Any chance of a hint.. I'm pretty excited about that. I manage just a TON of domains and am in charge of uptime, etc... I have a feeling AppleSource may have just became my best friend.

Eager minds want to know! Tell us more.

Andrea,

Oh jeez you're prying! Okay okay. First let me address your question. Yes, the TLDs (top-level-domain, or extension, as in .com, .org) sometimes don't pull very well using the InterNic WhoIs server. I'm looking into a way around this to not only include more TLDs but better support the ones we do pull.

As for the new product, it's exactly what you think it is, only better. Let me give you a scenario:

Imagine you're hosting through a company that promises 99.8% uptime, and you're only up for 96.3%. You should get some money refunded. However most companies turn their nose up and say "Well you can't PROVE that!" Now rewind. Imagine 96.3% uptime. On the 1st of the month, an email with a graph of dates and times of day with downtime is automatically sent to your host.

Kind of nifty, eh? Or what about being able to login to a page on your site from any computer anywhere and see at-a-glance the uptime percentage and status of all of your sites? Or having your cell phone ring when a site goes down?

What do you think?

I know the goods on this project, and it's going to kill everyones expectations.  I will use this for all my servers, and allow all my customers access to the software.  Perry you da man.  Get this done, I want to use it  Wink

I want this one too!

It sounds like a stand-a-lone ap - any thoughts or plans to integrate into MomD?

Wouldn't clutter the interface much as one could utilize similar, if not same, process flow of email alerts / server scan, just 'beefier'.

Maybe I should move this to feature requests... and thought I was done for the week Cheesy

Grant,

I don't think this will be included IN MomD. However, it will definitely integrate with it. Exporting and importing domain lists back and forth, and a very similar organizational interface. Maybe they could even share the same data folders? Your inputted data would basically be the exact same: domain names and their info. It's just the functionality of each app that is very different.

On second thought...

This app is going to have a lot more information and possibilities. Additional server types, notification methods, statistics... it'll have to use its own data files. But I'll think of some super-slick way to make MomD and this one integrate together, don't worry!

This project is still on the way, there's been slow but steady progress being made on it for the last few months. I'm hoping for a fall an early fall launch. It's looking really, really good! I can't wait for everyone to check it out.
