Hi, We purchased five seats of TimeNet Law day before yesterday. I put one seat on our Mac Pro Server running 10.6.2 and set it up as networked under the Admin user. The Data folder is located in admin/library/preferences/TimeNet Law Data. I set this folder as a shared folder on the network. Installed other four seats on four lawyer computers. Selected Network on each of the four computers and chose the Data folder on the server. Each Lawyer computers shows that it is Networked. We set Clients on one of the computers. They show up on all computers as expected but when we try to set up a matter we type in the mater name and click create. The matter comes up blank without a number and the matter name is blank. We can't do a timeslip. Can't see how to turn on Autosave.

Need some guidance here.

Stan

Hi Stan,

Sounds like a permissions problem. Please follow the steps I've sent to you via email and let me know if that solves the problem. I'll repost here for anyone else having similar issues:

The reason we recommend a new user account is because these problems are due to permissions errors in the data files. You can fix this problem without creating a new user account, however. Check the general file permissions in server preferences.  Make sure Users have permission to access the data folder.

Next, look at file sharing in the server administration window to make sure that the users have access to the child folders and child files (the files and folders WITHIN the data folder).  Give the users permission to access all of the child folders and files, and everything will work fine. We've had numerous reports of this happening, and it doesn't just afflict TimeNet Law, it afflicts almost any other software that networks and/or syncs across a network.

Another good thing to do is to repair your file permissions using disk utility every 1-2 months. If TimeNet Law ever starts acting strangely again, just check the permissions of the TimeNet Law Data folder and all of the files within.
